HIGHLIGHTS FROM 2019

September 2019 - Samoa Cultural Immersion - Independent Tour
An enriching experience that took us on an unforgettable exchange in Iva and Siutu in Savaii. And in Upolu we ran workshops with St. Mary's College, Vaiala Beach School, Samoa Victim Support Group (women & Children), S.P.A.C.E and performed for the annual Teuila Festival Variety Show. Our Boosted Campaign donors and all those who supported our fundraisers, we are indebted to you all for enabling this transforming experience. Fa'afetai, fa'afetai tele lava. We are fully invested in uplifting the Art of Siva Samoa by staying engaged with the culture, land, history and ancient stories of old Samoa.

August 2019 - Tahiti Cultural Immersion - Creative New Zealand
Under vigorous training of elite Tahitian dancer Tumata Vairaaroa we were able to develop our skills in Ori Tahiti as well as learn so much from her style of teaching: "For me, to dance means to
respect the different aspects of this art: music, lyrics, dance steps, costumes ... Each element is important, each posture has a meaning and everything must be mastered. So I decided to teach this knowledge, so that the practitioners of Ori Tahiti become artists and not just performers. At the same time, I hope to convey the values that are dear to me: health, love, sharing, connection, competition, success, passion, gratitude, creativity, excellence and satisfaction". Tumata Vairaaroa.
The Heiva and the Marae cultural performances were also awe inspiring! The heart and creativity that exudes so generously from Tahiti has influenced us beyond measure. Look out for our community classes where we will be offering all that we have learnt from Tahiti.

March 2019 - Turongo Collective Collaboration with Ura Tabu - Creative New Zealand
A conscious co-creation which brought together Te Ao Maori, Ritu Amina and Martial arts to the wider community of women of moana nui a kiwa in Tāmaki Makaurau. One of the most internally challenging experiences, yet we were held so firmly as they guided us with great leadership from Te Po (our greatest sources) through to Te Ao (our awakened self). A healing and empowering experience that we will forever be grateful for.

January 2019 - Outdoor Siva Workshops - Creative Communities Scheme
This was the first time in the 4 years since our last offering of community classes. We wanted to test our new outdoor teaching approach with our little children. After one week call out for enrolments, we received 20 enthusiastic little girls who were just natural dancers and only needing minimal guidance from us. Our classes then on became more focused on them enjoying Siva in a fun yet centered environment. This is achieved by implementing sacred breath work and fāgogo (story telling). We look forward to a full term year in 2020 with classes for a wider range of age groups. Stay tuned.
